We recently got our new car and are thrilled to announce that it's our first car. We had planned things, did good research, and budgeted properly before getting our car. Always remember to invest your hard-earned money in the best things. Hence in today's post, I will share the tips we followed before getting our dream car. I hope you will find this helpful for you.

10 Things to Consider Before Buying a New Car

1: Research -

The first and essential thing is doing your research. Take your time researching different cars, features, and further maintenance; budget first and narrow your list to reach your dream car options.

Internet is the most common option for researching. You can get honest reviews and opinions that will help you make your decision strong. You can ask your family members, friends, and relatives for some unbiased opinions.

Visit the showrooms, again and again, to check and feel the cars personally. Maybe some cars have great features but are expensive, then don't fall for those. It might look good to you now, but you may find trouble when it comes to its further maintenance. Take your decision wisely with good research.

2: Maintenance -

Now the next step is to search for the maintenance cost of your chosen car. Where new cars run smoothly but to maintain the smoothness, you must spend a certain amount every 2-3 months on servicing your vehicle. It includes the engine and other parts maintenance, oiling, etc.

3: Safety Rating and Features -

The next thing is to check the safety Rating of your selected cars, which is a must. Generally, safety ratings are based on crash tests conducted by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). Their measurement shows how well a vehicle protects passengers during crashes.

Unlike safety ratings, checking safety features are equally important. These days, cars come with many more advanced safety features, including collision avoidance systems, lane departure warnings, blind-spot monitoring, automatic emergency braking, etc.

4: Your Budget -

Buying things within your budget is a wise decision. Budgeting and financing are vital things to look into while buying a car. Calculating how much money you will spend on your dream car would be best. If it will be on EMI, what will be your monthly payment, etc.

After selecting your dream car, you can calculate the monthly payments using CarPayment, an easy-to-use online tool.

5: Warranty -

You should check out the warranty offered with the car. This will provide relief that you are covered in case something goes wrong with the vehicle. Don't forget to check the extended warranties that some dealerships offer.

6: Car Body Type and Comfort

A car's body type is directly linked to comfort, luxury, elegance, maintenance, etc. While selecting your new vehicle, you need to consider the body type of the car, whether you want a sedan, SUV, or Hatchback.

If you are looking for luxury, Sedan will be your go-to body type, and if you are looking for comfort and spaciousness, SUV will be the best option.

7: Petrol, diesel, or CNG?

You might have known that there are three main fuel types used in cars nowadays: petrol, diesel, and compressed natural gas (CNG). Each option has its pros and cons.

While petrol engines use liquid petroleum, Diesel engines use heavy oil as fuel. Generally, Diesel engines are more powerful than petrol engines. CNG engines use natural gas as fuel. They are very efficient but need special equipment to convert the gas into a usable form.

8: Transmission

Transmission is an important thing you need to decide before making a car purchase. Automatic transmissions are very popular these days. Cars with automatic transmissions offer a comfortable ride as compared to manual ones. If you don't want to shift gears from time to time while driving, automatic transmissions are a nice option for you.

But note that the price of cars with automatic transmissions is higher compared to the basic manual ones.

9: Test Drive

A test drive is one of the important things to consider before making a car purchase, and you can't ignore that. After shortlisting a car on various metrics and features, don't behave like a lazy soul to take a test drive. And you should do the test drive before the actual purchase.

While taking the test drive, make sure to feel comfortable in the car and explore all the car's features. You also can cross-check whether the car's size and functionality are as per your needs or not.

10: Your Requirements -

Last but not least will be to know your requirements. You can ask yourself, What are your needs? For what do you need a car? If you plan to use the vehicle daily, you might opt for a good mileage car. If you only plan to use your vehicle for occasions, you should look for a good-looking car.

For a cheaper car option, you might consider a petrol engine. Petrol engines are more affordable to buy and maintain than diesel engines. But they are not as strong as diesel engines. Diesel engines are much more powerful, which ensures that they will give you better performance and acceleration. One thing is that they are more expensive to purchase and operate than petrol engine cars.

Besides these, CNG engines are the most environmentally friendly option available. They are very much efficient but relatively costly to purchase and operate.
