What is the expected life of shapewear with regular use?

As shapewear keeps getting popular and has become a must-have for many to achieve a sleek figure and a boost in their confidence… Many wonder about the expected life of their shapewear if they give them regular use. Because of its lifespan, shapewear will eventually need to be replaced.

To be able to determine the lifespan of your wholesale waist trainers and shapewear it’s necessary to consider some factors like how frequently you used them, the material quality, and how you maintain your piece as well as its type.

The quality of the materials

This is one of the most important factors to help determine the lifespan of a garment, alongside its construction. Brands will use high-quality materials to manufacture their shapewear because they have the ability to compress and stretch.

The use of high-quality materials will significantly prolong the life of your shapewear piece. Some brands will use a superior blend of fabrics and construction techniques that enhance durability.

The frequency of use

If wholesale shapewear is worn regularly it will make it wear out faster, especially if you compare them with ones that are worn only on special occasions.

It’s recommended to have several pieces if you are planning to use your shapewear more regularly, so you can rotate them and extend their lifespan. This will give the piece time to rest and recover its shape.

Maintenance practices to follow

To give your shapewear proper maintenance and care is important to extend the life of your garment. One of the first things you need to do is give it a proper washing. There are care instructions on the label. Most pieces should be hand washed or a gentle cycle with cold water if machine washed. Using a mild detergent for delicate fabrics is recommended to preserve the elasticity.

When you dry your shapewear, avoid using the dryer as heat can damage the elastic fibers of your garment. To dry it, lay it flat or hang it to air dry away from the direct sunlight. And to store it you need to store it flat or folded to prevent stretching it out. Avoid hanging it as it can deform the piece over time.

If you follow these tips, you will extend the lifespan of your shapewear significantly.

Types of shapewear

It’s important to know that there are different types of shapewear and they will have varying lifespans depending on the areas they are targeting and also depending on their design.

Bodysuits or full-body shapers tend to have a longer lifespan because they distribute the compression evenly across the body. If you give them proper care, they can last from 6 months to a year. Then waist trainers or corsets experience high stress around the midsection, and this is an area that might wear out faster. They tend to last around 3 to 6 months.

When it comes to shaping short or thigh slimmers, they show signs of wear much quicker in the areas that suffer higher friction, like the inner thighs. With regular use, they last around 6 months. Shaping camisoles or tanks can last up to a year if you use them regularly because they undergo less stress than other types.

What are the tear and wear?

These are the signs that you should recognize when it’s time to replace your shapewear. One of the first signs is the loss of elasticity. When your garment no longer provides the same level of support and compression, it might mean its overstretched.

Another sign is tearing, which is a visible damage not only to the fabric but also the seams. When your shapewear starts feeling uncomfortable or starts causing chafing, it might mean it’s either worn out or not fitting properly anymore. And when it starts pilling or fading or shows any other visible signs of wear, it can indicate that is time to replace it.
